The New Breed

Off the Beaten Path

The New BreedOff the Beaten Path(Thorpe) It’s risky business to lead off your album with a song called “Sounds Like Shit.” Fortunately, The New Breed’s third full-length release actually sounds pretty good. Oi punk with obvious Nova Scotian roots and seething political commentary, Off the Beaten Path is a slice of blue-collar life on the east coast. While the disc sees each band member taking a kick at the songwriting can, multi- instrumentalist Lionel Stanley plays a bigger role this time around, contributing to half of the album’s tracks, and his intermittent mandolin musings continue to add a unique flavour to the already colourful songs. —Jon Bruhmcategories: Canadian artist
