The Novaks have ditched their personas and delivered an honest and notable rock ‘n’ roll debut. These Newfoundlanders originally dragged their tunes around Atlantic Canada under the alias Persona, but they’ve shed their indie skins and have proved they can rock out with the best of the The (insert one-syllable band name here)s. Maybe they’ll rock even harder in the end, after they head across the country with road warriors Matt Mays and El Torpedo and their 12 track self-titled disc in tow. Don’t be led astray by the radio-friendly single “Goodbye Rock ‘n’ Roll Band” — the rest of the tunes are fuller, ballsier and a touch more tongue-and-cheek. This album won’t disappoint even the snobbiest of rock patrons.
