The Pearl Button (El botón de nácar)

Rated NR 82 min. 2015

This documentary is the captivating follow up to Nostalgia for the Light. Another fascinating journey through Chile's troubled past, the film traces as far back as 3000 years, delving into an ocean of lost souls. Embedded in the vast, stunning expanse of Chile's Patagonian Archipelago, a supernatural landscape full of volcanoes, mountains and glaciers, is the deeply affecting history of the Kawéskars, the indigenous people who paddled its waters. The documentary unfolds as poetic metaphor, carefully examining earthly elements in order to recover and reclaim an otherwise forgotten people, and the remarkable, individual stories of their folklore.
