The pest-laid plans

To Tim Bousquet,

Thank you enormously for your article on banned pesticide sales ("Lawn order," May 24, 2007). I walked into Canadian Tire on Quinpool two weekends ago and had to walk right back out, wheezing from the overpowering pesticide fumes created by the pallets and pallets of outlawed Weed 'n' Feed and the multitude of other illegal products piled high in the store's centre aisle.

Clearly, even after years of education, people have no idea of the risks these products pose to themselves, their children, their pets. Worse, they really just don't care. It follows they'd have no respect for the by-law.

I'm going to call HRM to ask them to send a by-law enforcement officer to the store so they can collect the name of every customer who buys these products. If they won't do that, it's time to take the fight to a provincial level.
