The Tyde

Three’s Co.

The Tyde
Three’s Co.
(Rough Trade)
Hundreds of records come out every year under the broad moniker “indie pop.” While some fans relish in the sameness that 95 percent of the releases share, most people will only pay any real attention to the few albums that attempt to take their sound into a realm beyond the usual mixtures of Big Star, Beatles and the Beach Boys. The Tyde’s Three’s Co. has moments in which it seems it’s heading in that more adventurous direction, with nods to more rustic fare such as The International Submarine Band, but it settles into itself too quickly. Like everything else it sounds like, it’s well-written and -performed, but just follows footsteps on a well-worn road.
