Thin ice | Opinion | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

To Lezlie Lowe,

I have just read, belatedly, your November 15 column "Divas on ice," and I must say as a person who has lived in Halifax for more than eight decades and still enjoys a skate, I think it's a mistake to have a skating facility on the Grand Parade. In recent years, the GP has undergone another makeover and to make a reasonably sized area available for an ice surface a major revamp would be required. This in itself would be expensive and, in addition, the ice surface would undoubtedly cost more than $150,000.

Perhaps a better location, or an area which presently could accommodate an ice surface with little or no disruption, is Victoria Park. A skating facility in this location could be a part of the new Halifax vision as related to the Spring Garden Road area.
