To serve and protect

comment

To the editor,

As the debate over Sunday shopping rages on, I can't help but wonder where the priorities of our lawmakers lie. After your recent cover story about the ongoing violence we find here in Halifax, I continue to be surprised that premier Rodney MacDonald would rather fret over people's right to shop on Sundays as opposed to curbing assaults on our streets. Of course, what does the premier care if there's crime in Halifax? He doesn't live here in the city. I'm sure it doesn't bother him that people are being attacked for no reason. But if someone dares shop on the Sabbath, now that's a job for the local police department!

So if you're out on Sunday doing some illegal grocery shopping, make sure to tip your hat to the potential police presence. After all, we want to show them just how much we appreciate them monitoring the grocery stores while real crimes are potentially taking place elsewhere.
