To the editor,

In Kyle Shaw's February 23 editorial, he urged citizens of Halifax to attend the public hearing regarding the United Gulf development on the former Tex Park site and "put your foot down." I attended the public hearing and put their foot down was exactly what the people of Halifax did. A wide variety of people—including students, mothers, architects, business people and even grandmothers—came to the meeting to stand up for what was right. They were all saying the same thing: that they were sick of ugly, uninspiring, insensitive design in this city, and they saw the United Gulf proposal as a unique, bold and inspiring design, a fantastic addition to this incredible city.

Most importantly the people of Halifax recognized that old and new can live together in harmony. This city is ready for a change, and it is ready to be inspired.
