Urban Surf Kings CD release

We can thank Pulp Fiction for the Urban Surf Kings. Still reeling from the film's killer soundtrack, the band's founder Rev. Hank decided to experiment with a genre that was pretty untapped in Halifax. “We had no clue. We were like, does anybody like surf? Does anyone want to book us? And we really thought the lack of a singer would be a problem." Turns out, it wasn't. Since 1995 the band (Rev. Hank, Crazy Flagg and Spunky) has grown from three-chord riffs to incorporating Indian, rockabilly and western swing influences into their sound. The Kings' new release Retro-sonic: 15 Years of Twang is a retrospective album with tracks from their past 11 recordings and unreleased material—all left untouched in its original form. Their celebratory show promises much dancing, audience participation and even prizes, says Rev. Hank, “And nobody to sing out of tune for you”. –Allison Saunders
