Christmas at the Khyber

Published December 25, 2003.VariousChristmas at the Khyber (independent) With over 20 Christmas songs (original and traditional) by some of Halifax’s best artists, Christmas at the Khyber is a great bang for your buck. There are a quite a few surreal tracks that’ll win over the eclectic crowd—Mos Huntslers’ “IJ’s Home for Christmas,” Jack MacDonald’s “I Like Snow” and Tarragon Smith’s “Christmas Dinner for My Wife” are definite highlights—but there are also some spirited renditions of Christmas classics. Death By Nostalgia’s “Carol of the Bells” is a must-listen, as is Wintersleep’s brooding “We Three Kings” and The Wilsons’ “Christ was Born in Bethlehem.” Pick this disc up and pray that the concept catches on—Christmas at the Khyber deserves a sequel.—Chuck Teedcategories: Local artist,Canadian artist
