See You on the Moon: Songs for Kids of All Ages
(Paper Bag)
These tunes may not be annoying enough to win over the tots, but a stellar cast feels it’s worth a try; they mix in some excited young voices (Apostle of Hustle), act scary (Fembots), incorporate a music box (Mark Kozelek). Sufjan Stevens digs up a familiar Christian lullabye, “The Friendly Beast.” Broken Social Scene slows “Puff the Magic Dragon” down for extra nap appeal. Great Lake Swimmers makes it sound easy, combining animal noises with catchy groove on the title track. The hop from indie-rock oddness to snagging those flighty, growing cerebra is no slam dunk. The set shines for variety and light-heartedness. It’s a tall task.
