Marie Antoinette OST
The union of new wave and royal courts fits like a pair of worn-in Chuck Taylors. Turns out that the 1980s were as vapid and vain, but just as much decadent fun, as Versailles, thanks to the candy-sweet soundtrack to Sofia Coppola’s movie Marie Antoinette. Wisely dodging familiar retro night material, the songs drive through time with standouts by Siouxsie Sioux, Gang of Four, The Strokes, The Cure and Aphex Twin, mixing original instrumental pieces that cast a dreamy air. Perhaps the best representation is the inclusion of Bow Wow Wow, whose lead singer Anabella Lwin was discovered at age 14—the same age that Antoinette married Louis XVI.
