On Tuesday morning, members of the media and film community filled a theatre in Park Lane to eat sticky buns (media types rate launch snacks---its a fact) and get the lowdown on this years ViewFinders International Film Festival for Youth, running April 22 to 26. There are plenty of films that dont have age or height restrictions; see atlanticfilm.com for ticket details.
Many of the screenings are for school programs, like on Tuesday April 22 at 10am, Ill be sad to miss Komaneko: The Curious Cat---a Japanese cat who makes animated movies. You had me at meow. But its really cool that young audiences will get to see old classics like a newly restored print of Albert Lamorisses The Red Balloon (Le ballon-rouge). The film is paired with another Lamorisse film, White Mane (Crin-Blanc), Saturday April 26, noon at Bayers Lake.
For the first time, the closing gala is a Best of the Fest screening on Saturday, April 26, Bayers Lake Cinema at 7pm, so you wont miss out on the best of the daytime shows. The screening will also include the Oscar-nominated I Met the Walrus, which played at last years Atlantic Film Festival and the nightmare that is Sundance fave kids + money.
