Getting hold of the members of Wassabi Collective is tough when they’re weaving through Toronto traffic to pick up copies of their new CD, Get It. Luckily, guitarist Brent Hongisto (Gisto for short) has an endless supply of dying and charged cellphones and the patience to talk about the band and its work amidst cut-outs and background noise. The Nelson, BC, pop-reggae group will soon be heading through the quieter traffic of Fredericton to play east coast show dates, and is psyched for its high-energy, dance floor shows. “Our last albums reflected more of a jam band thing, long opuses of songs, whereas this album is more crafted,” says Gisto, adding that fans can still expect music they can crazily dance to, but with new songs from the latest album that are more refined. “We really gave ourselves a little more time to put the icing on it, and make it a little more lush than it’s been in the past.” Get a taste of Wassabi Collective’s zesty spice when band members Gisto, Melissa Meretsky, Jimmy Lewis, Rahj Levinson and Andrew McCormick play The Seahorse Tavern Saturday. –Holly Gordon
