Re: “Asbestos dump kindergarten

It's *highly* unlikely that this was asbestos. Nothing in Bayer's Lake would have been built at a time when asbestos was still in use (pre-1970), and there are very strict regulations re who removes it and how it is controlled and disposed of after removal. Perhaps it was rockwool insulation, or un-coloured fibreglass.
/first-time caller; just read this in the paper Coast and had to log on and voice my dissent.

PS Love the all-bitch column. Loves are boring...ooh I saw a cute boy on the bus... somebody smiled at me on the street... boring

Re: “The Forum’s uncertain future

I don't think, ultimately, that people are *that* attached to the history or nostalgia of the building, but to the fact that the current facility serves a wide range of people and events. The proposed replacement doesn't, save for a small 'community room' that can be rented out (see the existing BMO Centre in Bedford which is the template for the new facility). When I suggested to an HRM planning staff member that it would be a good idea to incorporate more community space in a renovated or replaced Forum, their reaction was pretty close to what I would call anger, and dismissal. I'm not at all surprised at how the community has reacted to these plans. Why not replace the Forum with a facility that can accommodate all of the communities needs as the existing building does?
The wisdom of building the other arena in a swamp in Burnside, which is HRM staff's recommendation for Dartmouth, is also dubious.
