A dream wedding on a DIY budget

Ashley & Ben, married May 15, 2010.

Ashley Delaney and Ben Aitken aren’t huge fans of attention. The high school sweethearts met 10 years ago, and needed to tie the knot in a low-key way. “Being together for so long, we didn’t feel like we needed a big to-do,” says Ashley, now a graphic designer. (Ben transformed from high school student to talented carpenter.) Keeping things casual, Ashley and Ben based their wedding on their ceremony song, Jack Johnson’s “Better Together,” because the most important piece of the wedding day was to have their families together, having a good time. With a photobooth area with moustache sticks, chalkboard speech bubbles and old frames as props, a typewriter guestbook and a wedding tree, the now-married couple spent the perfectly detailed day with everyone they loved at the St. Margaret Sailing Club.
