When: Sundays, 2 p.m. and Tuesdays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Continues through May 1 2011
Lives are busy and entertainment opportunities are plentiful here in Halifax, but I’m telling you to make time to see 2b Theatre’s original and gorgeous When it Rains. Projection designer Nick Bottomley has created a fantastic world painted with shadow that delights and amuses, and writer/director Anthony Black has peopled it with four memorable characters played by four outstanding actors. The play centres on the life of a successful couple (beautifully played by Francine Deschepper and Connor Green) as they face an avalanche of trials that run the gamut from run-of-the-mill (health and financial) to Biblical (a lightning strike). Sebastien Labelle and Samantha Wilson play a less happy couple, whose lives are also imploding in less dramatic way. When it Rains is a treat for the senses that will leave you thinking about the big questions of life, and if that’s not great theatre, I don’t know what is.
