Works of the Weird: Halifax Alternative Arts, Craft and Fashion Show

When: Sat., Aug. 14, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. 2010

Stacy Lepage has never sold anything at a craft show, nor has she ever organized one. But the Saint Mary's student is set at full steam ahead for Halifax's first Alternative Arts, Craft and Fashion Show, which she has nurtured from idea to fully formed event. "It was kind of just a whim and it grew uncontrollably," laughs Lepage, saying that the day of crafts now includes a fashion show with live models and three designers that'll have music spun by DJ Bludston (7pm). Asked why she wanted to start an alternative to the regular craft shows Halifax sees each season, Lepage says she simply wanted to create a space for artists who normally wouldn't sell their wares at a conventional show. "We have a lot of pagan-type things, a lot of accessories like gothic or punk. There's going to be a lot of art. Plus-size and regular-size models. It's basically anything handmade---there's no vintage, there's nothing resold, no second-hand stuff." Admission's only two bucks, and proceeds go to the Nova Scotia Aids Coalition. The bar opens at 6pm. –Holly Gordon
