W.T.F, New Brunswick?

“Up, Up, and Away” Edition

You’ve probably been wondering W.T.F. or “Where’s The Fun” in New Brunswick between September 7 – 9?

This time, we’re flying you out of your comfort zone. That’s right, we’re talking hot air balloon rides, with a trip back in time to 50s styled diners and drive-in movies. But we don’t want to spoil all of it – read on!

Could you find festivities closer to Halifax? Probably. But no one does eccentric and fun like New Brunswick. Get out of your funk, leave the HRM for a weekend, and why not get a little weird?

Leave without a trace and come back with stories you’d rather not tell – don’t worry, your secret love-affair with NB is safe with us.

The countdown is on for our favourite colourful weekend event. If we say “30 hot air balloons” does that tip you off? It’s the annual Atlantic Balloon Fiesta! Watch them take off twice daily from your safe spot on the ground or dare to fly.

If you’re up for the thrill and the cost, it’s well worth it just to look over Sussex from above. Wave to your family and friends, this is a trip of a lifetime.

For those of you who aren’t a fan of heights, there is more than enough to choose from. Three days of festivities means amusement rides, laser tag, and even chainsaw carvings!

We commend you try as much as you can, but definitely squeeze in the morning launch at 6:30 a.m. and the Magic Night Moon Glow at 8:00 p.m, both happening on Friday, Saturday, and one final morning launch on Sunday.

Now for your blast from the past! JJ’s Diner will have you hooked for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. While you’re munching on burgers and sipping on milkshakes, you won’t be able to resist humming “Grease Lightning” to yourself while being surrounded by 50s knickknacks.

Stay in the era a little longer when you opt for an evening at the drive-in movie. They even serve deliciously fried donuts to add to the mix. The only thing that’ll keep you in this decade are the modern flicks.

Before driving back, let’s stretch our legs and get outside. The Sussex Bluffs Trail is short and oh so sweet with its valley views.

The trail has a mix of forest and then thins out around the drop off. Take it easy with this 2.02 km hike, be mindful around some of the ridges, and see for yourself why it’s been named a local favourite.

Simplicity is key this weekend, mainly because the hot air balloon ride alone will have your heart pumping for weeks to come. There are opportunities for the thrill-seekers or the tame festival lovers, we don’t discriminate. We’re always looking for good fun for all.

Who knows what we’ll have in store for you next week in New Brunswick.
