Hunter Valentine time | Music | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

Toronto’s Hunter Valentine are a trio of sassy lasses who rock like rock owed them money. They have a new slick and hilarious video being played on Much Music for their song “Break This” (directed by Colin Minihan) and they are touring the East Coast to give us all a little taste of their last album The Impatient Romantic. Kiyomi McCloskey (vocals, guitar), Laura Petracca (drums) and Adrienne Lloyd (bass) have been out this way before, but like all cool people, are looking forward to it again. “Yes, this would be our second time, but the first time we only played Halifax for Pop Explosion,” says McCloskey. “We are really looking forward to seeing the rest of the East Coast, eating some lovely Maritime food and meeting some East coast fans that we haven't been able to play to in our almost four years of being a band.” Catch them Monday at the Pavilion before they go off and do another million trillion things. “After the East Coast we hit Montreal, drive to New York and are flying to London, England for a festival called London Calling then it's back to New York for a show there,” says McCloskey. “As far as the summer goes I think we are going to focus on writing as much as possible for the next record.” Writing is something that McCloskey takes seriously, she writes mainly about “any situation that affects me enough that I can't stop thinking about for a good few weeks. Most of the time I have to write in order to process things that are going on in my life or around me. It's therapeutic.” What proves to be the most theraputic thing on a Hunter Valentine tour for McCloskey? “Playing music every single night with my best friends.” Aww.
