I sure hope you're right. You can't even see Citadel Hill from the water! Sad state of affairs.

I don't trust this guy. I worked with him once on a project and he tried to move the focus of the entire project to something he thought was more important. As well, he's in with the business community and we don't need anymore members of the Old Boys Club. *That* is what's holding the city and the province back. It's time for major change.

Pretty obvious none of you have been downtown lately. It's ugly and businesses are closing up shop. The sad part is that people who've lived here their whole lives don't understand what they had. Now the skyline loks like Vancouver. And, none of you raised the issue of council members being in the take from property developers. Tourists will not want to stop in Halifax. Our boardwalk on the waterfront looks like any of the ones on the eastern seaboard in the US. Moncton tore down their heritage properties and regrets it now. I've lived in many parts of the world and Halifax has list it's character, one of the reasons I moved here. Now I'm leaving because healthcare is rotten, the public educational system (not universities) is ranked poorly, power rates are second highest in the country as are taxes. You people think condos/rentals are going to help? Edpecially if they're empty??

This store has gone through a few owners in the past few years and, sadly, it's never been the same as when it was Great Ocean. For awhile there, maybe 9-12(?) months ago, I thought it would settle down into a nice place to go even if it was expensive but today was a shock. It was like there was a whole other, lazy, impolite crew had taken over. The store was almost empty but I chocked it up to the rainy day. Now, I'm not so sure.

I wandered around the store a little bit and *was* asked if I needed help but gone are the days when the employees really seemed to want to help! One surfer-looking dude asked if I needed help but it was obvious he was on his way to somewhere else and could have cared less. I was later checked out with my purchase by him and he wouldn't get off the phone with a personal call during the woman in front of me's checkout. When it was my turn I had to ask him to get off the phone because he started scanning a bottle I was returning which had the receipt wrapped around it! He called another guy over to do the return with not even a glance at me.

That next guy wasn't really listening to what I was saying and just opened the whole bottle up but at least he credited me with the purchase. I couldn't exchange it because they didn't have another one. The reason I was returning it was because it had been very slightly opened, most likely by someone who wanted to smell it. It was an oil and required refrigeration once opened.

The other person who asked me if I needed help was a cute young thing who could've cared less. It was apparent she was asking because she had to.

I don't know. The whole experience was completely different. Like a whole other crew had hijacked the store. After reading reviews about the store booting cars, I'm guessing it's been sold again. It's a shame because Halifax does not have much competition in the health food arena as it is.

The store does look beautiful with all the new refrigeration units, etc. but I miss Sterling and Great Ocean. The store is just too expensive to have to put up with rude behaviour. I'll be buying more online. :(

Bad experience today. See Yelp review. I think the store has been hijacked by a whole new crew of impolite, unknowledgeable, lazy (or tired), young people who could care less. Store looks nice but it was pretty empty today. Too many booted cars???

I don't have the words to say how valuable I think this article is for Halifax and NS. I've lived many places and Tim speaks the truth. From the Premier, from other government officials, I hear that no matter what happens or how bad/expensive it gets, people will stay here because of the good quality of life. Yet the quality of life in Halifax seems to be subsumed by the poor self image and the need for come-from-away dollars that Tim writes of. I'm soooo tired of hearing "world class city" and I hope this article wakes people the hell up!! We don't need high-rises and convention centres to make Halifax cool. We have our special Nova Scotian character which, I should say, exists nowhere else and we still have the bones of the mutual support Tim writes about. We just need to honour it. The rest will fall into place.
